Tips for writing wedding card messages
Still feeling stuck? Here’s some tips to get you going.
Be honest
Your message is a chance for you to share your well wishes but also express your own feelings about the day: how much you love the happy couple, how touched you are that you’re sharing this day with them.
Write down all the things you want to say and then edit down, pulling out the strongest sentiment or the most important thing that you want to tell them. Trust us: it’s much easier to sift through your thoughts once you put them on paper.
Keep it short
Your wedding card message is important but it’s not meant to be an essay. A few sentences is absolutely fine—while a few paragraphs is probably the limit. It’s meant to be a short, sincere and meaningful message that captures your warm wishes. Focus on saying a few things really well.
Don’t give unsolicited advice
Generally speaking, it’s best to avoid giving unsolicited advice in a wedding card. For one: the message should be about the happy couple and their exciting future, not a reminder of things that could possibly go wrong. And secondly, by offering advice rather than well-wishes, you risk making the message about you rather than them.
Lighthearted sentiments, like “don’t forget to share the remote!”, can be fine depending on your relationship. Only include things like that if you’re sure it will land well.
The perfect wedding venue
Wedding cards are just one part of the special day: there’s also food, drink, entertainment and speeches—and, of course, a dance floor.
But perhaps the most important factor of all is the wedding venue itself. As well as forming the backdrop for the festivities, you want a space where your guests feel comfortable and cared for, and that truly makes the day feel magical.
