INTRODUCING | WHAT DOES NOT TAKEOVER
A new showcase for music lovers
Join us for a night of musical magic, in collaboration with What Doest Not, where we shine the spotlight on young artists in Hammersmith’s favourite members club.
What Does Not is a creative and cultural incubator that also focuses on supporting and connecting emerging creators. For WDN, the best and most interesting people don’t always fit into traditional moulds, so they’re on a mission to create a new norm when it comes to experiences, creative projects and human interaction.
** Featuring Artists**
ELLY J DEVON
Elly is a singer/songwriter hailing from the beautiful Devon countryside. Her home is her biggest inspiration. This is where she draws her narratives of love, loss, our connection to each other but also to nature itself, and our balance within it.
She began singing at the age of six, taking to her grandmother’s piano and knew that this was her calling and purpose for the rest of her life. Classically trained at the Wells Cathedral School on a singing scholarship, she developed her own unique voice and style.
Elly released her deput EP ‘Soliloquy’ in October 2020 where her track ‘For Dan’ was chosen as Upload Of The Week by BBC Music Introducing In The South West. Her musical influences include big soul singers such as Etta James, Aretha Franklin and Amy Winehouse, the storytelling of Kate Bush, the truths of Bob Marley and the balls-iness of AC/DC.
With an emphasis on chill, conscious and catchy vocals, Tee Peters is a South East London-based music artist encouraging people to cut out distractions and focus on living a purpose-filled life. Since 2018, Tee has been consistently growing and developing his jazz-influenced and soulful sound, having seen the likes of BBC 1XTRA’s Jamz Supernova, No Signal Radio & even the Mayor of London welcoming his work! With tracks like Pressure, Seasons and Morning seeing Spotify editorial success, Tee has found his song ‘Pressure’ on Spotify’s Fresh Finds: Hip Hop playlist in 2021 as the only UK artist to be selected for the biggest Hip Hop playlist for independent musicians in July-September.
Nineteen-year-old Dido grew up in a big family surrounded by various musical influences – her dad
introduced her to blues and jazz, her sisters to 90s pop, and her mum to all the great singer-songwriters. But jazz was the genre she gravitated towards the most.
As a self-taught guitar and piano player, Dido spent countless hours writing songs, singing covers
and perfecting her vocal riffs. She learned to play these instruments by ear, fascinated that harmony
could be created from strings and keys.
A big part in her musical journey can be attributed to Amy Winehouse and Corinne Bailey Rae – their
music was the first time she learnt to analyse song writing and harmony. And it’s this music she
always turns to whenever she’s feeling lost.
Dido aspires to be the sort of artist that travels a lot, playing shows and doing sessions. She dreams
of collaborating with people from different creative industry backgrounds and hopes to get her
music released into the world very soon. Watch this space.
